Surgeries with Steve Slater
Posted: 21 December 2018
We are delighted to welcome the fabulous producer and artist Steve Slater for a pair of New Year residencies in our Tenancy house.
During his stay with us, Steve will offer one-to-one surgeries for producers and artists at the house – informal, hour-long conversations to talk about where you’re at with your work and how you might realise your ambitions for the future.
Steve is widely known and respected for his pioneering work as Senior Producer at Tramway in Glasgow between 1995 and 2009. He introduced a generation of international artists to the UK and nurtured the development of a whole host of British artists and companies, including Quarantine – he commissioned our first piece See-Saw.
In 2009 Steve formed TACTICAL A.U. – a framework for his freelance activity and most recently was engaged as Director at Citymoves Dance Agency SCIO in Aberdeen from 2016 to 2018. Prior to this, he was Creative Producer for Catalyst / Dance Base and Portfolio Manager for Dance and Bursaries at Creative Scotland.
Steve will be resident at our Tenancy house in Irwell Riverside, Salford from Monday 14 to Friday 18 January 2019; and from Monday 11 to Friday 15 February. The surgeries will be free of charge, but we’ll ask you to bring something in exchange for his time – a book you’ve read perhaps, a cake you’ve baked, or whatever feels appropriate…
Curated and produced by Quarantine, Tenancy is a direct response to the extraordinary growth and change that is gripping Manchester and Salford. We’re renting a brand-new home on the border of the two cities for a year. Artists are being invited to take up residence, get to know the area and neighbours, and make work. We are also hosting conversations and other events in the house, exploring what it’s like to live in a city negotiating rapid change and the place of artists in the development of our cities.
Update 10 January 2019: Thank you to everyone who has registered their interest in a surgery with Steve – we’ve been overwhelmed by the response. Every slot is now full, but if you would like to be added to the waiting list, please email [email protected].
